Bad Sony from / Volume a huge disapointment., 21 April 2005

I bought the HBH-660 as an accessory to my TREO 650. I was at first excited because I have been a Sony products fan for quite some time. Upon 1st use the fit to my ear was not the greatest. I would have been willing to overlook this problem had the volume been even remotely acceptable. In a new car with rolled up windows I found the headset nearly unusable. This takes away from the list of other features that are wonderfully executed on this headset. This headset is a horrendous attempt from Sony.

Do not buy this headset.

One of the best non-boom headset, but with issues, 27 December 2004

The Akono HBH-660 continues Sony Ericsson's evolution of featherweight Bluetooth headset that began with HBH-60. Akono HBH-660 replaces HBH-600, mainly by adding LCD (Sony Ericsson calls it Info Display).

Pros:
- Very small (3.1 inches long) and light (0.72 oz) for comfortable wear over extended period.
- Stylish.
- LCD displays incoming call information, which can be useful if the phone is not nearby.
- Excellent audio quality (almost indistinguishable to the original)
- Excellent volume range.
- Can be used with both left and right ears (even LCD output can be rotated).

Cons:
- Pricey.
- Not very wind noise resistant.
- May require many practice before you can wear the headset quickly.
- Only Bluetooth 1.1 (not the latest 1.2, which pairs up more quickly).
- Battery life is only so-so.
- Non-replaceable battery (as with most headsets on the market).

Although HBH-660 is small and light, it is slightly heavier than HBH-600. Increased weight is probably due to LCD, which displays status (battery life bar, power indicator) and Caller ID information (phone number or caller name if paired with Sony Ericsson Bluetooth phone). While some may question the value of LCD, it can display more detailed battery information than simple blinking LED. And LCD can be very useful to those that likes to keep the phone in a jacket, glove compartment, or bag; or those that are forced to keep the phone near the window (for better reception).

Located next to LCD is a multi-purpose power button. Hold it down for 5 seconds to turn it on or off; hold it down for 2 seconds to reject an incoming call; or tap it to (1) answer incoming call, (2) initiate your phone's voice command, or (3) end a call. Located on its side is volume toggle switch (+ and -) that doubles as a mute button (certain combinations resets the phone, rotates the display by 180 degrees, or pairs it with another device).

The power connector is identical and interchangeable with Sony Ericsson phones, such as T616, T637, K700, and S710. Although its talk time and standby per charge is rated at 5 and 150 hours, respectively, I got closer to 4 hours of talk time with 2 days of standby. Your mileage may vary.

Pairing it up with a phone or computer is easy. After charging it up, turn it on and initiate the pairing process on your phone or computer. Select HBH-660 and enter 0000 as the passkey. The next time you turn on the headset, they will reconnect in few seconds automatically.

Quickly wearing HBH-660 takes some practice. But after about half a dozen tries, it became a second nature. HBH-660 is extremely comfortable to over extended period. Just as importantly, both incoming and outbound audio quality is excellent, with clear and full sound. While it does not have wind noise filtering, it does not sound too bad either. But I recommend rolling up the window when driving for more optimal conversation. The box includes HBH-660, AC charger, and wrist strap.
